CHANGE COMING TO PHILLY?
EVANS ON HOT SEAT! END OF SEASON FIRING???
__________________________________________________
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Philadelphia is a tough town and they love their football. With the NFL's Eagles winning the Super Bowl this past NFL season sent the town into a title euphoria that was well deserved after being deprived of a football championship for such a long time.
The AFFA's Philadelphia Americans on the other hand have struggled mightily, floundering at 1-6 approaching the midway point of the A.F.F.A season. Attendance has fallen and fans who do attend readily voice their displeasure.
Optimism was running high for the Americans after last season's 8-8 season. The Americans, then known as Bulldogs started slow at 1-8 but finished strong with 8 straight victories. It was not good enough to make the playoffs however. To make matters worse, the cross state rival Pittsburgh Ironmen ( Forge at the time) won the division and made the playoffs.
Head Coach Heath Evans has been feeling the heat and accepts full responsibility.
" No one is more dissatisfied and frustrated than we are with how things are going this season. We have a better team than 1-6! Nobody likes losing. " said Evans outside his office at Franklin Field Wednesday.
" I take full responsibility as I am the head coach. It is my responsibility to make sure this team is ready to play. Our entire coaching staff is working daylight till dark to try and get back on a winning track." stated Evans.
No word has come from the Americans ownership about the future of Evans with the team. But word from sports insiders is that Evans will be fired at the end of the season. As one insider put it, " Evans is walking a very thin line, that is getting thinner rather quickly!"
