SATURDAY (4-28-18) AFFA RESULTS


(7-3) Pittsburgh Ironmen - 30  (4-6) Virginia Tritons - 12

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania:  Alex Carder threw for 270 yards and a touchdown as the Pittsburgh Ironmen throttled the Virginia Tritons 30-12 in a Atlantic Division clash .

Carder completed 20 of 36 passes with 2 interceptions and was sacked 4 times. Tyler Gaffney ran 19 times for 56 yards. Eric Rogers had 9 receptions for 97 yards .Alec Lemon caught 2 passes for 66 yards including a 49 yard touchdown reception . Mike Edwards had a 91 yard kick off return for a touchdown. Amarlo Herrera had a 33 yard interception return for a touchdown. Swayze Waters went 3-4 on field goal attempts As the Ironmen moved to 7-3 on the year .

Mike Bercovici completed 16 of 43 passes for for 154 yards and a touchdown, with 2 interceptions and was sacked twice for the Tritons . Chris Hairston caught 4 passes for 51 yards and a score. Chad Owens had 5 catches for 45 yards. Jason Tucker connected on 1 of 3 field goals. Andre Monroe recorded a safety . Tritons fall to 4-6.

(6-4) Memphis Hound Dogs - 37  (2-8) Philadelphia Americans - 13

Memphis , Tennessee:  Ricky Ray threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in leading the Memphis Hound Dogs past the Philadelphia Americans 37-13 at the Liberty Bowl Saturday afternoon.

Ray completed 21 of 33 passes for 213 yards and 2 touchdowns . He was sacked once. He rushed for 9 yards on 1 carry.  Cameron Artis Payne ran for 35 yards on 14 carries. Neal Sterling had 4 receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown .Ryan Smith caught 4 passes for 55 yards and a score. Shayne Graham went 3 for 3 on field goal attempts. Alani Fua had a 32 yard fumble recovery for a touchdown in the win.

Alex Tanney threw for 118 yards and a touchdown , with 1 interception and was sacked 3 times. Brandon Whitaker had 16 carries for 79 yards, and a touchdown reception.  John Crockett ran for a score while rushing for 56 yards on 12 carries.

(9-1) Louisville Thoroughbreds - 37  (3-7) Georgia Generals - 10

Louisville,  Kentucky :  Ray Rice ran for 98 yards and 3 touchdowns on 24 carries as the Louisville Thoroughbreds crushed the Georgia Generals 37-10 before a sold out Papa John's Cardinals Stadium Saturday .

Rice also had 5 receptions for 52 yards. Bo Levi Mitchell threw for 152 yards and a score ,with 2 interceptions on 15 of 25 passing.  Ryan Spadola caught 5 passes for 61 yards and a score. Josh Brown went 3 for 3 on field goal attempts . Shiloh Keo had 2 interceptions in the game.

Case Keenum completed 12 of 24 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown , with 2 interceptions and was sacked 5 times for the Generals.
League leading rusher Tyler Ervin rushed for 68 yards on 11 carries which put him over the 1000 yard mark. Gerald Christianson had a touchdown reception in the loss.

(4-6) Michigan Panthers - 41  (4-6) Birmingham Barbarians - 16

Birmingham , Alabama:  Cody Kessler completed 18 of 26 passes for 227 yards and 2 touchdowns , plus ran 6 times for 24 yards and a score as the Michigan Panthers trounced the Birmingham Barbarians 41-16 at Legion Field Saturday.

Paul Perkins ran 15 times for 50 yards and a touchdown . Joseph Fauria had 4 catches for 77 yards and a score . Pharoh Cooper caught 4 passes for 54 yards and a touchdown . Darrin Pete caught 5 passes for 66 yards .Keenan Cole recorded a 98 yard kick return for a touchdown. Jaden Oberkrom connected on 2 of 3 field goals in the win for the Panthers.

Trevor Harris threw for 266 yards and a touchdown, while completing 32 of 46 passes. He threw one interception and sacked once . Rex Burkhead was held to only 25 yards on 8 carries. Casey Pierce had a touchdown reception as the Barbarians dropped to 4-6.

(8-2) Chicago Stags - 49  (3-7) Omaha Bulls - 24

Chicago,  Illinois:  Marcus Murphy had 2 kick returns for touchdowns  ( 98, 93) as the Chicago Stags blasted the Omaha Bulls 49-24 before a large crowd at Soldier Field.

Brandon Doughty completed 22 of 30 passes for 260 yards and 2 touchdowns . He was sacked once . Alfred Morris ran 21 times for 159 yards and 2 touchdowns. Willie Snead caught 9 passes for 96 yards and a score . Gator Hoskins caught 5 passes for 59 yards and a touchdown Roger Lewis had 4 receptions for 77 yards . Jermaine Whitehead had a 46 yard interception return for a touchdown. LeShaun Simpson led the defense with 13 tackles and a forced fumble .

Rakeem Cato completed 26 of 40 passes for 289 yards and a score , plus ran 6 times for 33 yards and a score to lead Omaha. Trent Richardson ran for 41 yards on 10 carries. Alfred Blue ran 14 times for 29 yards and a touchdown. Emanuel Arceneaux caught 6 passes for 89 yards and a score.

(7-3) Portland Pioneers - 31  (7-3) Houston Wranglers - 17

Houston, Texas:  Bryan Bennett threw for 174 yards and a touchdown on 15 of 21 passing , plus ran 17 times for 76 yards as the Portland Pioneers defeated the Houston Wranglers 31 -17 before a capacity crowd at TDECU Stadium in Houston Saturday evening .

Wendell Smallwood ran for 64 yards and a score on 12 carries. Titus Davis had a touchdown reception. Mike Catapano recorded a safety.  Josh Lunsford connected on 5 of 5 field goals as the Pioneers improved to 7-3.

Kapri Bibbs ran for 112 yards and 2 touchdowns on 14 carries to lead Houston. Blake Sims completed 10 of 22 passes for 130 yards, with 2 interceptions and was sacked 4 times. Deontay Grey caught 4 passes for 79 yards for the Wranglers who fall to 7-3.

(8-2) Miami Sharks - 13  (0-10) Utah Mammoths - 12

Salt Lake City , Utah :  Miami quarterback Zach Collaros ran for a touchdown as the Miami Sharks slipped by the winless Utah Mammoths 13-12 at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City Saturday night.

Collaros completed 20 of 29 passes for 253 yards, plus ran for 11 yards on 5 carries including the 9 yard touchdown run. Tajae Sharp had 8 receptions for 105 yards. Sam Ficken was 2 for 2 on field goals , including the game winning 21 yard field goal with 1:44 remaining in the contest.

Garrett Grayson threw for 114 yards on 11 of 21 passing.  Devontae Booker ran 22 times for 93 yards. Josiah Yazdani hit on 4 of 4 field goals as the Mammoths remain winless at 0-10.
