A. F. F. A. SUNDAY WRAP UP! (Week 11)
( 8-3) New Orleans - 41 ( 8-3) Dallas- 38
Dallas, Texas; In a battle of Mid-South division titans. It all came down to who wanted it more. Dallas needed it to hold the tie breaker, New Orleans needed it to stay in contention for their first division title. It turned into a good old fashioned slobber knocker.
Colby Cameron completed 28 of 41 passes for 342 yards and a touchdown as the New Orleans Nightmare (8-3) defeated the Dallas Outlaws ( 8-3) 41-37 at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas.
Mike Reilly and the Outlaws offense excited the crowd early as Reilly hit Malcolm Mitchell for a 77 yard touchdown bomb with 9: 16 remaining in the first stanza. A Justin Medlock extra point put Dallas up 7-0.
New Orleans answered with 5: 57 remaining as Jerome Messum powered in from one yard out completing a 8 play 88 yard drive. A Justin Manton extra point tied things up at 7-7. Dallas answered as Justin Medlock kicked a 34 yard field goal to give the Outlaws a 10-7 lead with 3: 14 left in the first quarter.
New Orleans grabbed the lead back as John Wetzel recovers a fumble for a touchdown that gave the Nightmare a 14-10 lead after one quarter of play. The lead was short lived however as Mike Reilly hit Bud Sasser for a 14 yard touchdown pass, completing a 9 play 88 yard drive. A Medlock extra point made it 17-14 Dallas. The shoot out was on!
New Orleans came right back as Jerome Messum ran in from 12 yards out with 8: 01 remaining in the half, completing a 8 play 59 yard drive. A Manton extra point gave the Nightmare a 21-17 lead. Dallas fired back as Mike Reilly found Malcolm Mitchell again, this time from 13 yards out. The extra point gave Dallas a 24-21 lead with 3: 54 remaining in the half. New Orleans answered with a 4 play 32 yard drive that ended with Jonathon Williams pushing in from one yard out with 1: 47 remaining in the half. New Orleans led 28-24.
On the ensuing kick off Akeem Hunt took it 99 yards to the house, electrifying the home crowd of 27, 000. The extra point was good and Dallas led 31-28 with 1: 40 remaining in the half. Then with : 26 left New Orleans tied it up 31-31 as Justin Manton connected from 33 yards out. After a wild first half, it was all tied up going to halftime.
Nothing happened in the third quarter. With 14: 08 in the fourth quarter, Dallas grabbed the lead after Justin Medlock hit a 36 yard field goal, giving the Outlaws a 34-31 lead. With
10: 13 remaining New Orleans grabbed the lead for good as Colby Cameron connected with Mike Davis for a 20 yard touchdown pass. A Manton extra point put New Orleans up 38-34.
The two teams exchanged a late field goal. New Orleans finished on top 41-37.
Jerome Messum finished with 11 carries for 38 yards and 2 scores. Cody Hoffman caught 7 passes for 103 yards. Mike Davis had 5 receptions for 70 yards and a score to lead the Nightmare.
Mike Reilly completed 21 of 41 passes for 329 yards and 3 touchdowns with one interception. He was sacked 3 times. Ben Tate ran 8 times for 61 yards. Malcolm Mitchell had 5 receptions for 153 yards and 2 touchdowns. Bud Sasser caught 6 passes for 59 yards and a score for the Outlaws. Akeem Hunt had 6 kick returns totalling 204 yards and one touchdown.
(5-5) Hartford - 35 ( 6-5) Pittsburgh - 28
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Connor Halliday threw for 330 yards and 3 touchdowns as the Harford Sentinels climbed into the thick of the Atlantic Division race with a 35-28 win over the Pittsburgh Forge at Heinz Field Sunday afternoon.
Devon Johnson ran 12 times for 70 yards. Anthony Jordan ran for two scores, while rushing for 39 yards on 9 carries. Jordan Payton caught 8 passes for 76 yards and a score. Antwan Goodley had 5 receptions for 104 yards and one touchdown. Nick Boyle also had a touchdown reception, catching 4 passes for 59 yards as the Sentinels move to 5-5 on the year.
Pittsburgh was led by Shane Carder who completed 20 of 34 passes for 211 yards and a score. He was sacked 4 times. Tyler Gaffney ran 15 times for 55 yards and a score. Jeremy Lang also had a touchdown run. Eric Rogers caught 5 passes for 76 yards. Alec Lemon had 4 receptions for 31 yards and a score as the Forge slide to 6-5.
( 7-4) Oklahoma - 43 ( 2-9) Arizona - 29
Norman, Oklahoma: Matt Johnson threw for 446 yards and 5 touchdowns as the Oklahoma Roughnecks rolled to a 43-29 win over the Arizona Scorpions before 29, 544 at Oklahoma Memorial Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Johnson completed 21 of 24 passes and was sacked twice. Thomas Rawls ran 16 times for 78 yards. Dennis Johnson ran for a score, while rushing for 29 yards on 6 carries. Chandler Jones had 7 receptions for 173 yards and 2 touchdowns. Josh Harper caught 6 passes for 164 yards and 2 touchdowns including a 91 harder. Chris Gragg also had a touchdown reception, while catching 4 passes for 66 yards.
Arizona was led by Travis Lulay who completed 20 of 26 passes for 270 yards and 2 touchdowns and one interception. Ray Graham had 91 yards on 15 carries, plus a touchdown reception. Tim Cornett ran 15 times for 59 yards and 2 scores. Tommy Shuler caught 7 passes for 119 yards and a score in the loss.
( 7-4) San Antonio - 38 (3-8) Houston- 14
San Antonio, Texas; It was" Defend The Alamo Night" at Alamo Stadium Sunday, as the San Antonio Six-Shooters battled the Houston Wranglers. The crowd of just over 26, 000 were not disappointed as the Six Shooters shut down the Wranglers 38-14 to move to 7-4.
Tajh Boyd completed 20 of 28 passes for 287 yards and 4 touchdowns, with 1 interception. Marshaun Coprich ran for 56 yards on 13 carries. Michael Ford had a touchdown run, rushing for 30 yards on 4 carries. Adarius Bowman caught 5 passes for 104 yards and 2 scores. Jamaal Jones had 6 receptions for 84 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Houston quarterback Vince Young completed 12 of 19 passes for only 91 yards, but threw 2 touchdowns. Kapri Bibbs ran 12 times for 65 yards. Jeremiah Johnson had 2 touchdown receptions as Houston fell to 3-8.
( 4-7) Columbus- 34 ( 4-7) Omaha - 23
Omaha, Nebraska; Terelle Pryor threw for 103 yards and 2 touchdowns, plus ran 10 times for 96 yards in leading the Columbus Explorers to a 34-23 victory over the Omaha Bulls at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha.
Eric Breitenstein ran 12 times for 77 yards and 2 touchdowns. Connor Vernan caught 6 passes for 48 yards and a score. Jarred Abbrederis also had a touchdown reception in the win as Columbus moved to 4-7 on the year.
Omaha was led by Rakeem Kato who completed 20 of 30 passes for 216 yards and 2 touchdowns. He had 1 interception and sacked 3 times. Tra Carson ran 23 times for 90 yards. Mike Thomas had 5 receptions for 80 yards and a score. Da'Ron Brown caught 5 passes for 66 yards as Omaha drops to 4-7.
